Sic Transit Craig Mundie?

My original question "Can we trust software" makes sense at several levels.

  • Can we trust an individual software artefact? (Does it make any difference if the producers are legally liable?)

  • Can we trust an individual software producer? (Are the social, economic or legal sanctions against untrustworthy producers?)
  • Can we trust software in the large? Can we trust the software industry in the large?
In Sic transit gloria Microsoft, John appeals to history, from where he finds reason to believe that Microsoft's position at the top of the software industry may be limited. (But can we trust history? Why should we trust a particular historical narrative?)

Within Microsoft, Craig Mundie is the boss of of Trustworthy Computing.
